Emergency Support During Government Shutdown

Raising $200,000 for Food Distributions and Other Local Needs

November 6, 2025

The Community Foundation of Broward is a proud longtime partner of local nonprofits that provide food and other vital support to our neighbors in need.

During the federal government shutdown – with federal SNAP food aid disrupted for thousands of Broward residents as well as local federal workers going weeks without paychecks – Broward food pantries and other front-line organizations are stepping up to meet a growing demand for the lifelines they provide. Many are providing these critical services while also trying to overcome their own funding delays and the lingering effects of previous federal cutbacks.

Like our nonprofit partners, the Community Foundation is committed to doing more to help during this crisis.

As a result, the Community Foundation will raise $200,000 in immediate support for food pantries and other help for residents with emergency needs.

Thank you to Marsha Levy, a Community Foundation fundholder, for her lead gift of $25,000 to jump-start this emergency fundraising effort. The Community Foundation is providing an additional $75,000 now, which will fuel an initial $100,000 in grants to support food pantries and other front-line nonprofits.

We are now seeking $100,000 in matching donations to reach our $200,000 goal and provide even more local support for those who need it most.

Also, thank you to County Commissioner Nan Rich for elevating this collaborative effort. And thank you to everyone stepping up to ensure people in our community get the help they need.
