Community Foundation Achieves Charity Navigator’s Top ‘Four-Star’ Rating

February 26, 2026

The Community Foundation of Broward has elevated our dedication to excellence and trustworthiness by achieving a Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator.

Charity Navigator provides data, ratings and guidance that make it easier for donors to make informed choices “that turn intent into action.” It rates more than 230,000 organizations and provides trusted information to more than 11 million donors annually.

Charity Navigator’s top-level, Four-Star rating designates the Community Foundation as an official “Give with Confidence” charity, indicating that our organization is using its donations effectively based on Charity Navigator’s comprehensive criteria that go beyond financials to reflect the work charities do.

In addition to attaining our Four-Star Charity Navigator rating, the Community Foundation this year again maintained our Platinum Seal of Transparency rating on Candid’s GuideStar. Candid is a nonprofit that provides social sector data, tools and other resources for nonprofits nationwide. Donors and other funders can use Candid to verify and research nonprofits that are aligned with their priorities. In 2025, the Community Foundation began to require that nonprofit organizations achieve a Gold Seal of Transparency from Candid to be eligible to receive Community Foundation grants.

Going above and beyond to achieve top-level ratings is an important part of the Community Foundation’s “commitment to accountability and excellence,” said Community Foundation President/CEO Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D.

“Building trust is essential to the partnerships we forge with philanthropists, nonprofits and professional advisors to shape a brighter future for the community we love,” Jennifer O'Flannery Anderson said.

Leading By Example

The Community Foundation’s top-level ratings from Candid and Charity Navigator are examples of how the Foundation has long prioritized setting high standards and incorporating best practices to show we are an impactful, trustworthy champion for local philanthropy. More than two decades ago, we became the first community foundation in Florida to earn accreditation by the National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations. By going through the rigorous steps to maintain our accreditation, we continue our commitment to accountability and excellence as a national leader in philanthropy.
