The Community Foundation of Broward’s new “Cancer Screening and Care Grants” will raise awareness about lifesaving services and make them more readily available to Broward residents in need.
We are seeking proposals from nonprofits to help increase cancer screenings in Broward and to improve access to patient care, particularly for residents with limited resources. We will award grants of up to $25,000 each to organizations that raise awareness about preventing and treating cancer and provide support services that make screenings and care more accessible.
The application deadline is Sept. 2. Proposed projects must begin in October.
Here’s what we are looking for:
- Proposals for new or expanded programs that raise awareness about cancer prevention and treatment and provide support services that make cancer screenings and patient care more accessible.
- Programs to raise awareness should:
- Develop culturally competent and community-centered awareness campaigns.
- Encourage men and women to get screened for various types of cancer, with an emphasis on breast cancer.
- Use diverse communication channels, including social media, radio, print publications and community events.
- Prioritize underserved populations with limited resources.
- Programs for support services should:
- Provide resources or referrals to individuals who require follow-up care or treatment after screenings.
- Offer financial support for additional tests and procedures.
- Build collaborations with health care providers to streamline referrals and ensure timely follow-up care.
- Organize community-based screening events, including the use of mobile mammogram vehicles and other strategies to make care more accessible.
- Proposals must clearly demonstrate how an applicant will use the grant to expand or deepen their organization’s impact in the fight against cancer.
- Applicants must commit to providing follow-up reporting (photos, videos, written reports, etc.) showing the community impact of the grant-supported effort.
Nonprofits eligible to apply:
- Operated for at least two years in Broward County and actively serve Broward residents.
- Have a Gold Seal of Transparency from Candid.
- Demonstrate financial stability, are registered with SunBiz (the Florida Division of Corporations) and maintain an active Board of Directors.
- Either qualify as a 501(c)(3) or will collaborate with a qualified 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor that has 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and a Candid Gold Seal of Transparency.
- NOTE: Consideration for these grants will not affect eligibility for other Community Foundation grant opportunities.

Our Commitment to Fighting Cancer
Since 2016, the Community Foundation has provided more than $3 million to fight cancer. Thanks to support from our fundholders, we invest in opportunities to advance local cancer research that makes lifesaving clinical trials, precision medicine and targeted therapies accessible to Broward cancer patients. We also strive to enable accessibility to revolutionary discoveries in cancer therapy and provide support systems for all Broward cancer patients. In addition to this new call for cancer-fighting proposals, during 2025 we have already approved $900,000 in new support – spread over three years – for cutting-edge research and treatments.
