Congratulations to Community Foundation of Broward Board Members and Fundholders Mona Pittenger and Jonathan Allen, who were among the honorees at the 2023 National Philanthropy Day festivities in Broward.

On Nov. 2 at The Signature Grand in Davie, the Broward chapter of the local Association of Fundraising Professionals recognized members of our community who show outstanding commitment to leadership in philanthropy and volunteerism.

Mona Pittenger received Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year. Mona is one of our “Community Builders” – philanthropists who partner with the Community Foundation to create endowed charitable funds of $1 million or more to shape a brighter future for Broward. Her endowed funds provide permanent support for people in need, to sustain and grow the Broward Center for Nonprofit Excellence and to champion racial justice, equity, diversity and inclusion. Mona's exceptional generosity, civic leadership and unwavering commitment to bettering the lives of others has left an indelible mark on our community and ignited a spirit of philanthropic leadership in others.

Jonathan Allen received Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser. Jonathan is a Community Foundation Fundholder who is carrying on a family tradition of local philanthropy by giving through the Foundation and volunteering his time to fundraise for our community.  Jonathan’s willingness to dive into projects, committees and fundraising on behalf of the Foundation continues to impress – and inspire others to get involved. He has become a bridge builder, connecting various stakeholders, community leaders and partners to create collaborative solutions. Through his community connections, Jonathan has stewarded a Black-led sorority, church and others to establish endowments that will support their charitable impact forever.

Way to go Mona and Jonathan! We are so proud that you are both part of the Community Foundation’s philanthropy family. Thank you for all that you do to make our community a better place to call home.
