National Make-A-Will Month Is A Great Time to Consider Planned Giving

July 18, 2023
August is National Make-A-Will Month, which raises awareness about importance of estate planning and the power of planned giving.

August is National Make-A-Will Month, an annual reminder about the benefits of creating or updating your will.

Did you know that only about 34 percent of American adults have a will?

According to the 2023 Wills and Estate Planning Study by Caring.com, nearly two out of three Americans have yet to create a will. Procrastination remains the number one reason most people give for not having a will, with 42 percent saying they just keep putting it off.

National Make-A-Will Month is a great time to check this critically important item off your to-do list.

Why now?

Creating or updating your will is about peace of mind and empowerment.

Your will is a chance to take control of an uncertain future by making financial and real estate plans now, instead of leaving it up to others to decide when you are gone.

Through a will, you can ensure that your finances and belongings are used the way you want them to be used. It’s an opportunity to lock in support for your loved ones. If charitable support is important to you, a will is a powerful way to cement your legacy of philanthropy through planned giving.

The Power of Planned Giving

Giving through your will is an easy, powerful way you can make a difference in the lives of others.

With a bequest of cash, real estate, stocks or other assets, you can ensure support for causes and charitable organizations that mean the most to you.

The Community Foundation of Broward is a go-to resource to help you navigate your planned giving options. Working in collaboration with your professional advisor, we help you maximize your giving power and create an endowment that will fuel your legacy of support forever.

Your Endowed Charitable Fund

By including a gift to the Community Foundation in your will or estate plan, you lock in future support for an endowed charitable fund at the Community Foundation.

A bequest from your estate launches your charitable fund, which through careful investment the Community Foundation will shepherd and grow for generations to come.

Year after year, your endowed fund will fuel grants – in your name or anonymously, if you prefer – that change lives and transform our community. With the Community Foundation as your partner, your BOLD impact for Broward will never end.

Join Our ‘Legacy Society’

When you include the Community Foundation in your estate plan, you have the opportunity to join our Legacy Society.

The Legacy Society includes more than 170 forward-thinking philanthropists who have promised a combined $370 million in estate gifts to the Community Foundation that will shape a brighter future for Broward.

Members of our Legacy Society get to learn more about the impact of local philanthropy and experience the gratitude of their future gift while they are living. Each year, we celebrate the Legacy Society members’ investments in our community by honoring them at our annual Legacy Society Luncheon. We also invite Legacy Society members to other fun functions where they can learn more about Broward’s big issues and the important work of the Community Foundation.
