We recently had the pleasure of hosting several past Community Foundation of Broward Board Chairs at a luncheon where they shared fond memories, learned about our latest efforts and offered their insights into our new strategic plan.
Wil Greaton, Richard Berkowitz, Christy Lambertus, Rey Leightman, Carlos Reyes and Jim LaBate were among those who gathered at the Foundation office for one of our first in-person events since vaccinations have enabled more face-to-face get-togethers.
During the luncheon, current Board Chair James Donnelly led a discussion about the Foundation’s history of BOLD leadership in our community. President/CEO Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D., provided an update on her efforts since taking the helm in August. Also, Board Member Kurt Zimmerman discussed the progress of the BE BOLD Leadership Campaign, which so has so far raised nearly $200 million toward our $500 million goal.
The luncheon featured food prepared by Community Foundation grantee Arc Broward – which provides a culinary program that teaches residents with developmental disabilities and other life challenges skills that empower them to find employment. Last year, support from the Mary N. Porter Legacy Fund enabled Arc Broward to create a new commercial kitchen that helps more residents launch culinary careers. Daniel Oros, the winner of Arc Broward’s newly named Mary N. Porter Student Chef of the Year Award, attended the luncheon to share how this valuable community program has changed his life.
In addition, Board Vice Chair Juliet Murphy Roulhac provided information about the Foundation’s ongoing strategic planning process, which will help chart a course for the Foundation in the months and years ahead. That’s because gathering feedback from these impressive leaders – to go along with insights from Fundholders, Legacy Society members, professional advisors, our talented staff, nonprofit partners, community leaders and other stakeholders – is helping to shape the new strategic plan, which should be finalized this fall.
“The Community Foundation Board Chairs who came before me have done so much to fuel the Foundation’s mission to foster bold philanthropy,” Board Chair James Donnelly said. “Their ongoing involvement with the Foundation and the insights they share continue to shape a brighter future for Broward.”
