The Community Foundation of Broward is ready to help you make the most of your year-end giving. With the new year fast approaching, our expert team can help you amplify the impact, and tax benefits, of your holiday giving.
Here are a few year-end giving tips about ways to give, tax law changes and timetables for giving.
Ways to give
In addition to sending a check or making an online donation, here are a few asset options to consider for your year-end giving:
- Give stock: Appreciated stock can be donated and then sold by a charity for 100 cents on the dollar – no capital gains tax applies.
- IRA distribution: A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA is an easy way to donate to a nonprofit, potentially reducing your taxable income and satisfying a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
- Donate real estate and other “complex gifts”: Real estate, “closely-held stock” and valuable collections can fuel your charitable support. Our philanthropy experts can work with your professional advisor to facilitate gifts of complex assets. CLICK HERE to learn more.
- Donor-Advised Fund Grant: Many nonprofits rely on year-end giving to sustain their critical work and to determine what efforts they will pursue next year. Adding to your Donor-Advised Fund and making a grant advisement during the holiday season is a great opportunity to create ongoing support for your charitable priorities.
Tax law changes to consider
Big changes to federal tax law, ushered in by passage of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” this year, could make gift bundling a more appealing giving strategy to consider. Gift bundling involves providing several years’ worth of support for your favorite causes or organizations through a single gift to a Donor-Advised Fund. It enables you to lock in support to achieve your long-term charitable goals, while getting the full tax benefit this year.
