New Community Builder: Judith Ann Linnell

Boldly Creating A More Vibrant Broward

May 21, 2021
Support from Judith Ann Linnell’s endowed charitable Fund at the Community Foundation of Broward helps children in need as well as the arts, civic engagement and education in Broward.

Judith Linnell loved living in a vibrant community where she could be close to the sea. She was a longtime member of the Coral Ridge Yacht Club and an active participant in the club’s “Anc’Hers” women’s group. As a dedicated supporter of the Navy League in Fort Lauderdale, Judith championed our nation’s seafaring traditions.

Because she cared for her community, Judith prioritized giving back and getting involved in Broward. Whether dancing at glittery fundraisers, taking museum tours or soaking in a night of opera music, Judith enjoyed participating in charitable events that helped lift up the place she called home.

Judith, who died in 2009, took her giving a step further with an estate gift that created the Judith Ann Linnell Foundation. Support from her private foundation helped the arts, civic engagement and education in Broward and also created opportunities for children in need. When her private foundation neared its sunset, Judith’s trustees teamed with the Community Foundation of Broward to continue her legacy of shaping a brighter future for Broward.

Through this collaboration, assets from Judith’s private foundation have created the endowed Judith Ann Linnell Foundation Fund at the Community Foundation.

As Broward’s local philanthropy expert, the Community Foundation is uniquely positioned to ensure Judith’s support for her community makes the greatest impact possible. The Community Foundation shepherds and grows Judith’s endowed Fund. Our expert team’s ability to foster collaborations and find dynamic grant opportunities enables Judith’s support for children, education and civic engagement in Broward to continue forever.

Thanks to the power of endowment, Judith’s BOLD impact for Broward will never end.

“Judith loved living in Fort Lauderdale and supporting causes that make this a more vibrant community. She would be thrilled to know that her charitable Fund at the Community Foundation is changing lives today and will continue to help Broward forever.” – Jim LaBate, former trustee for Judith’s private foundation and former Community Foundation Board Chair
