New Community Builders: Jean and David Colker

Forever Support for Broward’s Seniors

October 12, 2022

Jean and David Colker shared a love for their community and a commitment to local philanthropy still felt by people all across Broward.

Early in their marriage, Jean and David made Fort Lauderdale their home. The success of their local business, Chemical Packaging Corporation, enabled them to launch the David and Jean Colker Family Foundation. And for more than 50 years, Jean and David provided generous support to foster education, serve children, support law enforcement, promote the arts and assist veterans in Broward.

After David passed in 2011, Jean carried on the commitment to local philanthropy that was such an important part of their 69 years together. Jean’s dedicated support through the years has fueled critical community services provided by United Way of Broward County and its Mission United program, Lighthouse of Broward, Hope South Florida, Kids in Distress and more.

Now, after celebrating her 100th birthday, Jean is partnering with the Community Foundation of Broward to shepherd and grow the community support that she and her husband started. Jean created an endowed charitable fund at the Community Foundation called Colker Cares for Seniors. She trusts the Community Foundation’s expert team to find innovative, impactful ways for her endowed support to make life better for seniors in Broward – for generations to come.

With the Community Foundation as their partner, Jean and David’s unwavering support for their community will never end.

“Helping people makes you feel good, and I know that the Community Foundation of Broward will be here long after I’m gone, making sure my money continues working to create a better Broward for everyone.” – Jean Colker
David and Jean Colker are new Community Builders for the Community Foundation of Broward.
