New Grants Available to Boost Broward Residents' Health

Cancel Cancer grants, made possible by charitable Funds at the Community Foundation of Broward, support prostate cancer research at the Florida International University Biomolecular Sciences Institute.

More support to fight cancer and to promote healthier living in Broward is available through new Cancel Cancer and BFit grants, made possible by Fundholders at the Community Foundation of Broward.

The Community Foundation has issued a call for applications for grants of up to $100,000 each for bold programs that:

  • Produce innovative cancer research that can help Broward residents achieve good health.
  • Deliver patient support services that reduces stress and anxiety for Broward cancer patients and their families.
  • Promote healthy eating habits that inspire Broward residents to take charge of their health.
  • Create structured physical activities that are easily accessible for Broward residents.

Applications for the Cancel Cancer and BFit grants are due by Feb. 14. The grants will be awarded in June. To apply online for a Cancel Cancer grant, go to www.cfbroward.org/grant-opportunities/cancel-cancer. To apply online for a BFit grant, go to www.cfbroward.org/grant-opportunities/bfit.

The Community Foundation is dedicated to making Broward a place where people live long, healthy and happy lives. Support to make Broward a hub for collaborative cancer research and support for programs that foster healthy lifestyles are among the ways local philanthropy helps make Broward a better place to live.

“We want to enable accessibility for Broward residents to revolutionary discoveries in cancer therapy and to provide support systems for all Broward cancer patients,” Foundation President/CEO Linda B. Carter said.  “We also want to improve the health of Broward residents through increased physical activity and access to healthy food.”

Applications for Cancel Cancer grants for cancer research should: focus on clinical trials phase I, II and or III aimed at producing new, innovative and breakthrough cancer treatments that are well-designed and utilize random critical trials to improve cancer care.

Applications for Cancel Cancer grants for cancer patient support services should: demonstrate measurable outcomes in emotional and psychological support for cancer patients, or in cancer patients receiving transportation or temporary financial assistance.

Applications for BFit grants should include one or both of the following:

  • Structured physical activity that is easily accessible to residents and takes place over an eight-month or longer time period.
  • Promotion of healthy eating habits that inspire residents to take charge of their health.

Support for Cancel Cancer and BFit are among the ways that philanthropy through the Community Foundation tackles Broward's Issues That Matter – 10 issues that affect us all and shape Broward’s future.
