The Community Foundation of Broward is proud to share that our former leader, Linda Carter, is being added to the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Walk of Fame.
The Walk of Fame, located at Las Olas Oceanside Park, honors local leaders who make sustained, positive impacts in our community by:
- providing a positive outlook for the future of our youth
- contributing to the quality of life for our citizens
- fostering the spirit of our community
- bringing positive recognition to the city
- making Fort Lauderdale a place to live, work or play
- encouraging people to visit Fort Lauderdale as a destination of choice
Linda, who retired in 2020, elevated the Community Foundation to new heights during her 23 years as President/CEO – shaping the Foundation into a strong, innovative force for good in Broward.
She is being honored on the Walk of Fame as a “Champion of Youth” for decades of devotion to “building permanent institutions that strengthen youth, families and nonprofits, she has raised the overall quality of life in the city and region.”
Linda is one of four 2026 Walk of Fame honorees, who also include:
- Dr. Bill Kent – Dr. Bill Kent advanced Fort Lauderdale’s global aquatics reputation by revitalizing the International Swimming Hall of Fame, championing “Every Child a Swimmer” to protect youth and leading Team Horner’s employee ownership program. He is also one of the Community Foundation’s newest “Community Builders” – visionary philanthropists who partner with us to transform lives and uplift our community by creating endowed charitable funds of $1 million or more.
- Stacy Ritter – As CEO of Visit Lauderdale, she has contributed dramatically to the sustainability and growth of the city of Fort Lauderdale and the region. She also serves as a Broward County commissioner and state legislator.
- John P. "Jack" Seiler – As a 25-year elected public servant and former Fort Lauderdale Mayor, he was a driving force behind what the city has become today. In addition to serving as Fort Lauderdale’s mayor, he is a former state legislator who also served as a Wilton Manors council member and mayor.
The Walk of Fame induction ceremony for Linda and her fellow honorees is at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 23. It’s part of the city’s daylong “Great American Beach Party” celebration, featuring live music, family fun, beach activities, classic cars and more on Fort Lauderdale Beach.
Congratulations to Linda and all the Walk of Fame honorees!
More About Linda’s Enduring Impact
Linda’s legacy of lasting impact can be found all over Broward. Public art projects that inspire and unite our community. Career training and affordable housing opportunities that help struggling residents become self-sufficient. A greater safety net for former foster children and aging seniors alike. Thanks to Linda’s leadership, the life-changing effects of Community Foundation grantmaking and leadership are felt across Broward.
Building off her predecessors’ work to launch the Community Foundation, Linda’s helped the Foundation achieve a ranking among the top 100 community foundations nationwide thanks to her laser focus on growing Broward’s endowed philanthropic resources. Under her guidance, the Community Foundation’s assets – the fuel for our community impact – grew from about $20 million when she started to more than $200 million when she retired. As a result, the Foundation went from providing $1 million grants a year to $1 million grants each month.
Throughout her 23 years, Linda empowered local philanthropists and worked as a community leader, uniting local organizations to work with the Community Foundation to get things done and shape a brighter future for Broward.
