Did You Know August Is National Make-A-Will Month?

Why This Is A Great Time To Talk To Your Clients About Estate Planning

August 2, 2021
August is National Make-A-Will Month, which raises awareness about the empowerment and peace of mind that comes from creating or updating your will.

As your clients return from summer trips and before they face a fall full of obligations, this is a great time of year to help them create or update their wills.

August is National Make-A-Will Month. While everyone needs a will, only about 30% of Americans say they actually have one, according to the 2021 Wills and Estate Planning Study by Caring.com. As your client’s trusted advisor, National Make-A-Will Month is an opportunity to help dispel myths and explain the importance of creating a will.

As you know, wills aren’t about doom and gloom. Estate planning is about empowerment and peace of mind.

A will is a chance to protect loved ones by naming a guardian for minor children or locking in care for beloved pets. A will is an opportunity to take control of an uncertain future by making financial and real estate plans now, instead of leaving it up to the courts to decide. For a client interested in charitable giving, including an estate gift in their wills cements a legacy of making a difference – and it doesn’t cost anything in their lifetime.

The Community Foundation of Broward is a go-to resource to navigate charitable planning opportunities for your clients today and through their estate plans. We partner with advisors to maximize the giving power of their clients and create endowments that will fuel their legacy of support forever.

For clients who value local philanthropy, one of the easiest planned gifts they can make is using a portion of their estate to support a charitable Fund, in their name, at the Community Foundation. They can do it by making a bequest to the Community Foundation through their will or trust. They can also name the Community Foundation as a beneficiary of an IRA, charitable gift annuity, life insurance policy and similar assets.

At the Community Foundation, we know that creating a will is a powerful way for your clients to craft a legacy that reflects their values and makes a BOLD impact for the issues that matter most to them. We are ready to help you achieve all of your clients’ charitable goals.
