Dev Motwani reshapes our skyline with developments that elevate the local economy, and his philanthropy transforms lives and propels the community he loves to new heights.
Dev moved to Fort Lauderdale as a child, when his family bought a beachfront hotel that would become their home and family business. After his father, Ramesh “Bob” Motwani, died when Dev was just 14, his mother Ramola took over running the hotel – which became a launching pad for the family’s redevelopment enterprise. After going to college and working on Wall Street, Dev returned home to help his mother and older brother, Nitin, run Merrimac Ventures.
Today, the Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences, The Gale Boutique Hotel and Residences, Broadstone Oceanside and the Miami WorldCenter hotel are among the development successes spawned by the family’s real estate investment and development firm, where Dev serves as managing partner. Exciting current projects include the Waldorf Astoria Residences in Pompano Beach, Bungalow East Boutique Condo on Fort Lauderdale Beach and the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences in Telluride, Colorado.
As his business impact grows, Dev gives back to lift up the community he calls home. He and his family created an endowment at Broward College – named in honor of his father – to empower students to launch careers in hospitality and tourism management. Dev champions the arts with support for the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. And he donates his leadership skills to help guide local nonprofits, including serving for six years on the Community Foundation of Broward Board of Directors.
On the Community Foundation Board, Dev saw firsthand how our expertise and stewardship enable philanthropists to be more strategic and impactful with their giving. Now Dev is partnering with the Foundation to take his local philanthropy to the next level. By establishing the endowed Dev Motwani Charitable Fund, he ensures a permanent, sustainable source of support for education, the arts and all of his charitable priorities.
With his generous investment in his endowed fund, Dev becomes our youngest Community Builder – a growing group of philanthropists who partner with the Community Foundation to establish endowed funds of $1 million or more. We are honored to ensure that, through the power of endowed grantmaking, Dev’s impact for the community he loves will never end.
“I’m involved in a number of great nonprofit organizations throughout Broward County and I love supporting them with my fund at the Community Foundation. … Partnering with the Community Foundation not only ensures that your money has good stewards, but also that it’s being invested in the community the way you want and the way the community needs.” – Dev Motwani
