Film Highlights 40 Years of LGBTQ+ Support in Broward

June 1, 2025

Throughout our 40-year history, the Community Foundation of Broward has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the LGBTQ+ community — from the early days of the HIV/AIDS crisis to today's fight for inclusion, health and equity.

A powerful new short film explores how the Community Foundation helps overcome stigma, elevate activists and drive millions of dollars to life-changing programs. What began as a response to a crisis has evolved into a model of inclusive philanthropy that continues to uplift all of Broward County.

Produced by the Stonewall National Museum Archives & Library with support from the Community Foundation, this film sheds light on challenges and successes, features conversations with local LGBTQ+ leaders and highlights ways Community Foundation support has helped through the years.

The film is the result of one of the Foundation’s “40 for 40: Spread the Love Grants.” To celebrate our 40th anniversary, the Community Foundation in 2024 awarded $400,000 total to help 40 nonprofits make a BOLD impact and shape a brighter future for Broward. Stonewall National Museum & Archives used its 40 for 40 grant to produce the documentary celebrating 40 years of significant individuals and events in local LGBTQ history.
