Grant Opportunities:
Cancel Cancer

The Foundation seeks to make Broward known for its innovative cancer research and to become a hub for ideas and collaborative cancer research. We want to enable accessibility to revolutionary discoveries in cancer therapy and provide support systems for all Broward cancer patients.

1. Cancer Research Application: A successful cancer research project focuses on clinical trials phase I, II and/or III.  (Phase III is preferred and will receive priority consideration). To produce new, innovative and breakthrough cancer treatments that are well-designed and utilize randomized clinical trials critical to improving cancer care that demonstrate the following measurable outcomes:

  • Number of cancer patients enrolled in clinical trials (Phase I, II and III) and responding positively to treatment.
  • Documentation and dissemination of research efforts that inform the field on breakthrough advances.

Of note, the Foundation will NOT consider cancer research projects that are focused on animal subjects. All projects must involve human cancer patients.

2. Support Services for Cancer Patients Application: A successful support services project will deliver the appropriate scope and depth of services to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and demonstrate measurable outcomes in one or both areas as follows:

  • Cancer patients receiving emotional/psychological support.  For example, support groups for patients and their family members, health-related activities like yoga or meditation that ease stress.
  • Cancer patients receiving transportation or temporary financial assistance. For example, transportation assistance to doctor appointments or help with utility bills.
Application Information

To meet the needs of the community during the coronavirus crisis, the Community Foundation of Broward has changed our usual grantmaking process to get resources where they are needed the most as quickly as possible. As a result:

  1. Grants may be renewed or awarded based on pressing community needs, without an RFP process.
  2. Grant applications to fill targeted gaps in community services may be offered by invitation only, via email invitations.
  3. Updated guidelines and outcomes to be achieved will be provided when a new RFP cycle opens up. We are not accepting applications under this area at this time.
