Celebrating Our New Community Builders

December 1, 2021

In October, we launched the celebration of the eight new Community Builders who have joined the Community Foundation’s growing philanthropy family.

Community Builders are BOLD leaders who partner with the Community Foundation to establish endowed charitable Funds of $1 million or more that shape a brighter future for Broward.

The 2021 Community Builder Celebration on Nov. 18 at the Signature Grand in Davie showcases some of "The Treasures of Broward."

Our Community Builders now include 44 dedicated individuals, families and community organizations who fuel innovation and tackle Broward’s big challenges with grants from their endowed Funds. By teaming with the Community Foundation for their philanthropy, Community Builders create a BOLD impact for Broward – today and forever.

The new Community Builders include: Nancy Lynn Brown, Cathy and James Donnelly, Judith Ann Linnell, Lawrence Sanders, Don and Judy Thiel, Louise Wemyss, Andrew L. Wurtele, and the Barry and Judy Silverman Family.

One of the ways we honor our Community Builders is with illuminated plaques displayed on the Community Builder wall that greets visitors to the Foundation’s Fort Lauderdale office.

In October we held ribbon-cutting receptions for our new additions to the Community Builder wall, which stands as a shining testament to Community Builders' deep commitment and BOLD investment in shaping a better Broward. And the Community Builder party was just getting started.

On Nov. 18, these visionary philanthropists were honored at our Community Builder celebration at the Signature Grand. This fun evening, themed "The Treasures of Broward," celebrated the Community Builders and also showcased examples of how philanthropy through the Community Foundation makes Broward a more vibrant community. Musical performances, rescued wildlife and therapy dogs, a Sea Cadets color guard, and an interactive painting project for attendees were among the local "treasures" supported by the Foundation that added to the night's festivities.

We are so grateful to our Community Builders and forever proud to be their philanthropy partners. By teaming with the Community Foundation to create endowed charitable Funds, Community Builders lock in a legacy of always being there for the community they love.  We will ensure that their BOLD impact never ends.
