We are deeply saddened by the loss of James Acheson, a Community Builder at the Community Foundation of Broward whose dedication to local philanthropy has changed lives for the better. We extend our sincere condolences to all of Jim’s loved ones.

Jim was a longtime philanthropist from Michigan who, while building a home in South Florida, partnered with the Community Foundation to create an endowed charitable fund to start giving back to the place that would become his “second home.” For more than two decades, grants from the James C. Acheson Fund at the Community Foundation have supported Lighthouse Point park improvements, emergency equipment for the fire department, restoration of the Hillsboro Lighthouse, scholarships, a youth sailing program and more.

Thanks to Jim’s commitment to endowed giving, support from his charitable fund at the Community Foundation will continue to lift up the community he loved. It’s our honor to find opportunities to carry on Jim’s legacy of bold impact for generations to come.
