The Community Foundation of Broward is proud of an impressive grantmaking history – made possible through Funds created by generous, caring donors. Since our establishment in 1984, the Community Foundation has granted approximately $35 million to hundreds of local and national nonprofits. As a result, we have changed lives and helped fulfill our vision of a brighter, more promising tomorrow.
The Community Foundation accepts grant proposals year-round. Grants are awarded by the Community Foundation itself and by our Fundholders through their Donor Advised Funds.
Priority is given to proposals that address one of the following:
- Helping Youth and Families Succeed: Creating brighter futures for the next generation.
- Independent Living: A positive transition into adulthood for youth who age out of the foster care system.
- HIV/AIDS Prevention: in partnership with the National AIDS Fund and the Elton John AIDS Foundatin, grants are awarded to lower the incidence rate of HIV/AIDS.
- Capacity Building: Strengthening nonprofit organizations.
- Civic Engagement: Citizens working together to solve problems and strengthen their communities.
Additional consideration will be given to proposals that:
- Address gaps in services in vulnerable and underserved communities.
- Use collaborative models that result in stronger program results.
- Pursue strategies that address new or emerging needs or approach existing ones more effectively.

All proposals for grants must be submitted through the Community Foundation's online system -
PhilNet: Philanthropy Network for Broward.
We ensure that each dollar awarded through a grant is meaningfully invested in our community. We do so by researching important local issues, forging effective collaborations and conducting site visits to see firsthand what the grant will be used for and how the particular program will benefit Broward County.
