Legacy Society Luncheon 2010

On Wednesday, March 24, more than 100 guests of the Community Foundation of Broward honored Legacy Society members, those who have designated a gift to the Community Foundation of Broward in their estate plans.

Jan Cummings, Chairman of the Board of Directors, noted, “The Community Foundation of Broward is grateful to have more than 100 Legacy Society members – who represent more than $120M that will come through estate plans to make Broward better – For Good. For Ever.

Linda B. Carter, the Community Foundation of Broward’s CEO/President, illustrated the power of estate endowments using the Gertrude Gray Memorial Scholarship Fund.   Started in 1995 with a one million dollar gift, the fund has granted more than 180 scholarships valued at more than $750,000 while preserving the value of the original gift.

Speaker Dr. Sally Karioth, Professor of Nursing, Florida State University, took listeners on a rollicking ride of funny anecdotes, somber insights and helpful suggestions.  She noted her varied experiences as a nurse, teacher, writer, talk show hostess and nationally renowned grief therapist.

Major sponsors for the event were Signature Grand and Cleveland Clinic Florida.  Table sponsors included:  Frank T. Adams, Esq. (Katz Barron Squitero Faust), Louis C. Anderson, Esq., Greg Schaeffer, (Morgan Stanley Smith Barney), Jeffrey Shover  (Morgan Stanley Smith Barney), Peter A. Portley, Esq. and William F. Sullivan, Esq. (Portley and Sullivan), Ralph L. Focaracci, CPA,  Robert E Dooley, Esq., Norman D. Tripp, Esq. (Tripp Scott), Benjamin A. Tobias (Tobias Financial Advisors); Kurt D. Zimmerman, Esq. (Zimmerman and Associates).
