More than $1 Million in Grants Awarded This Quarter
The Community Foundation of Broward awarded $1,132,231 in grants to our community this quarter.
August brings the start of a new school year and thus a major focus of these grants was education. From summer camps to college scholarships, awards made by the Community Foundation help residents of our community reach their full potential. Including the children in the program highlighted below....
Two Languages Needed To Succeed
Two out of every 1,000 children in the United State are born profoundly deaf. That number has not changed in decades.
Statistics from the Broward County School Board indicate that, on average, deaf students graduate from high school with a third to fourth grade reading ability.
With the help of a grant from the Community Foundation of Broward, Schott Communities in Cooper City is breaking this cycle and ensuring academic success. Read more about how deaf children are learning English - their second language here.
